Have you considered something like a mini plugin manager? All the mini plugin manager would do if enabled (and it would be enabled by default) would be to check to see if a plugin effected film playback and net games, and if it did, disable it. You could either make it smart, parse the plugin for keywords, or dumb, see if the plugin was on an approved list. I am sorry to suggest an idea that would require more work on your part.

Not that this question serves any purpose except to satisfy my curiosity, but what is story behind what happened to the Marathon source code? Was it really lost? It just sounds weird that it would go missing.
