I've decided to list the levels that seem like they could be some of these so-called Training Facilities, and then I'll explain some of the reasons for thinking so: - Cool Fusion
Now, let's go one by one through these levels: Cool Fusion: If you've played through Cool Fusion, you'll know what "The Wave" is. The question is, why have such a puzzle there if you're not trying to test someone? Furthermore, the infamous "Pit" seems like it was built in specifically for ambushing Security Personnel with drones or whatever, letting the Officers hone their combat skills. Of course, there is the "Experimental Vacuum Chamber". Why put that inside a Training Facility? Obviously, to get to the next part of said facility. It could also serve the purpose of science, but only when there aren't any Security Personnel training there. The final question: why put the Fusion Pistol there? Who knows? There's all kinds of ammo and weapons scattered throughout the Marathon for no reason, and this is probably no different. Blaspheme Quarantine: So, Durandal is testing us. Now, what better place to test a Security Officer than a Training Facility? Plus, the puzzles feel like ones you'd encounter at just such a training facility. Now, you might say "Yes, but the Map Annotations for the level refer to some sort of storage or maybe even use for quarantine." As with Cool Fusion, perhaps the "storage" parts or whatever would have been vacated during Security Personnel training? Shake Before Using: First off, the narrow bridges. Those could be used for testing balance, while the hidden terminal below would be used to return to an earlier part of the facility, thus letting the Officer try again. Second, the reactor-like things at the very end. Perhaps that was the objective of the training: to turn them on, even though they didn't really do anything. Fire! Fire! Fire! Fire! Fire!: The presence of lava seems highly unnatural, and even more unnatural is the fact that the design of the area seems to be built perfectly for dealing with such lava. Maybe the lava is meant to be there. Why? For training, of course. Security Officers are forced to run through the lava or whatever to get to the switch to raise the H-platform, allowing access to the end. It's basically a test of speed and running capability, albeit a very dangerous one. Colony Ship For Sale, Cheap: Same reasons I talked about earlier. Ingue Ferroque: What's the purpose of concentric rings, teleporters taking you from 9:00 o'clock to 3:00 o'clock or whatever, a mini-maze (not the 5D one, just the one with the Troopers and Fighters in it) and a weird lava-gauntlet? Obviously, to train Security Personnel. Also, there are no Map Annotations to say otherwise. Obviously, with a Colony Ship the size of a moon, there's gotta be plenty of space for Training Facilities. ;) Remember, I'm not saying that these particular levels are all definitely Training Facilities; I'm simply pointing out some levels that could be such facilities. Have fun,
