Not sure, but it merits further investigation. My save is well-placed for further investigation, although I may take a while to get back around to it--I've got a _lot_ of endstage practice coming up, I suspect. The undisputable fact that you move slower backpedaling argues is a strike against such a move..
I suspect either way you're going to wake the one four sectors south of Juan; my way has you facing the right way for a sidestepping dash south around the second of three turns.
