I cleaned out the north hallway before : the run, and the gauntlet ended with my facing west, into the ghasts: - : open door at hallway, hide around corner till ghasts come through door, : bang bang : - NNE down hallway, till I see the corner : - sidestep down the hall while turning left, facing NW by the time I reach : the second corner : - continue facing NW as I head south to second corner : - head west, fire AK-47 like mad at ghasts while oozes slime my back : Years of being terrible at Marathon have honed my backing-away skills, but : there you can easily outpace anything chasing you... : I think they very much wanted to force you into that "terror" mode, : by making your psychological safety-net as harmful as possible. They give : monsters the edge in long-distance fights, create groups so you'd get : overwhelmed by shining your light around corners, and even have an NPC : tell you to turn it off. : By modern game standards, it'd probably be seen as an utter failure! : "Our testers never found the alternate solution to the ooze puzzle, : can you add Paul Anka's corpse to give them hints?"
