In Response To: Re: No poison Green Oozes (Hopper)

I would have suspected going backwards would work _while hasted,_ and I'm gratified to see that is the case. I would like to think you could get around them all without doing it, but it seems to be tougher. I am impressed that you stuck with your method enough to try backing your way through the four or five ghasts on the way out, though...

There's something to this roguelike sneaking (would lights out at the end help avoid waking all 19 monsters at once in each of the last rooms? That's going to be something to try), and something about it I find very gratifying, given my childhood terror at creeping around in the dark. Ironic that it's the very 'careful' looking-around-with-lights-blazing-to-see-if-monsters-are-coming that draws them right in--although obviously if you back right into them

I bet it makes the Carnage Room a _lot_ more doable too. If you could get to endgame using only one red potion (on the Oozes, instead of the two I used in Happy Happy and getting the Violet Crystal) no-damaging the rest could be a lot easier. And even minor bugaboos at the start like the hallway on Lock and Load with three Headless ahead of you and in an open-door trap to the right...

Who would have thought we'd still be finding new ways to play?

: I tried the back-pedaling route a few times. Even with lights out, I'm no
: Solid Snake, but I never once got cut off. They'd all chase me mercilessly
: instead. I averaged one hit per short hallway, then get creamed in the
: south between the Ghasts ahead and oozes behind.

:

: Juan's ooze blocked me every time under your route, without potions. With a
: bubbly red, and a "never stop firing" attitude toward the Ghasts
: in the south, both routes gave me a no-damage run first try. Yours was
: significantly easier to pull off, though, so facing backwards is only
: worthwhile if you desperately want to conserve potions at the expense of
: damage and/or sanity.
