Me and my brother used to play this game literally non-stop every other weekend back in the days! (Back in the days when we were young enough for our divorced dad to be legally required to spend two days of quality time with us every other week. I don't remember what he was doing while we played Minotaur but those Minotaur matches were most certainly quality time of our lives.)

So I had to add my answer to this one:

The one thing that set the game apart for me was the feeling of uncanny mystery, that everything had some purpose or meaning and sometimes you could never figure out what it was. Maybe it was all in the manual and we just never read it, I don't know, but there was a Nethack-like feeling of becoming a wise player instead of just a good player. For example sometimes the randomly generated levels contained a huge pentagram on the floor which, unless I'm completely misremembering, we never figured out what it was for. (There were other floor runes but they did obvious stuff.)
