In Response To: Re: OT: Any Minotaur experts out there? (poenadare)

: I played it back in the day, In fact, I traded a Talking Moose for it. My
: memories are pretty fuzzy now...

: 1) Don't ever recall seeing one. The only enemies in the game are your LAN
: opponents. (Or we always had enemies turned off, maybe.)

: 2) Deathmatch, pure and simple. There was no single player experience.

: 3) Yes, randomly generated. "Dungeon" is such a generous term. It
: was a bunch of random corridors, dead ends, and a few teleports.

: 4) a) spawn, b) run like mad to pick up items, c1) randomly choose items to
: attack with (if you are new at the game), c2) sort through the bewildering
: assortment of items to choose something sweet (once you start remembering
: the names of the good items), d) move right next to your victim and
: attack, e) die, f) repeat. Everyone had to agree to quit (press the Y key)
: to end the game.

: 5) 8 I believe. (I only played it with three other people.) It was an
: AppleTalk limit?

: 6) Amazingly fast-paced game, silly item names and descriptions, but nothing
: truly iconic - well, there was the Stave of Ultimate Doom (inscription:
: Don't Use This) that killed everyone on the map (including the user) - I
: liked that kind of craziness in a game.

Just to add to this.

Up to seven people (yes SEVEN) could play over AppleTalk. The game came with seven copies, one for each Mac.

As a single player you could use the explore option in the game. In this mode you faced a computer generated opponent who could not be killed or kill. This allowed you to hone your skills without dying. Nice idea at the time.

Iconic? It came with a great slogan. Kill Your Enemies, Kill Your Friends Enemies, Kill Your Friends.

Lastly, it came with a sword called... Durandal and a hammer called... Mjolnir.

So no steampunk version of Minotaur with zeppelins called Destiny then? ;-)

Cheers
Hamish
