This is how I interpreted it in Eternal, too.

"You are destiny." I saw these words in a vision, or they were spoken to me in a dream. I've always been a daydreamer. Always reflecting on the past, or musing on things that may never be. But lately these visions have been so much more vivid. Whole nightmares of doomed worlds, and alien gods and demons... flashing behind my eyes in an instant like another life I might have lived.

Man, I thought I had better quotes illustrating this... but yeah. Basically, I interpret dreams to be what individuals of insufficiently powerful mental capacities see when they are Outside (i.e. having stepped beyond the bounds of spacetime into the timeless, nonspatial informational realm which defines spacetime as we know it). Individuals of slightly greater mental power see all possibly realities sort of juxtaposed on top of each other and have assorted types of "WTF" responses (either going crazy wild or crazy in denial, making them either W'rkncacnter or Jjaro).
But us mere humans have what are, to us, an incomprehensible mish-mash of every possible perception at once, and our subconscious minds conveniently ignore that nonsense, so we effectively wind up with no "true" perception at all for the duration of the experience, floating in a world of our own imagining, made real as only those possible perceptions which agree with our own imagination are let through to us - though the dream can be influenced by other intelligences that exist Outside and can comprehend and influence it a little more easily than we can. In this way the Jjaro (or other forces) can speak to us in our dreams, at least in those dreams we find ourselves in

Basically, : I interpret dreams to be what individuals of insufficiently powerful : mental capacities see when they are Outside (i.e. having stepped beyond : the bounds of spacetime into the timeless, nonspatial informational realm : which defines spacetime as we know it). Individuals of slightly greater : mental power see all possibly realities sort of juxtaposed on top of each : other and have assorted types of "WTF" responses (either going : crazy wild or crazy in denial, making them either W'rkncacnter or Jjaro). : But us mere humans have what are, to us, an incomprehensible mish-mash of : every possible perception at once, and our subconscious minds conveniently : ignore that nonsense, so we effectively wind up with no "true" : perception at all for the duration of the experience, floating in a world : of our own imagining, made real as only those possible perceptions which : agree with our own imagination are let through to us - though the dream : can be influenced by other intelligences that exist Outside and can : comprehend and influence it a little more easily than we can. In this way : the Jjaro (or other forces) can speak to us in our dreams, at least in : those dreams we find ourselves in
