That's always been my take on things, too. But it's more a matter of discipline for me. I can stay committed and feel upbeat about my project for weeks and months (okay, I just got started. I don't know the pain of seeing a project linger for over a year or more), but sitting down and actually putting some time in with Forge has been a real killer for me. Life intrudes and maps aren't produced. I also take the scrap and rebuild approach from time to time, keeping drafts of what I think are good ideas stored away in my head or on scratch paper buried under a stack of books or filed away and covered in dust. ;) I also agree that we're not out here trying to outdo one another or make The Best 3rd Party Marathon Scenario Ever... we all want our work to be appreciated, but we want to enjoy the process of the work as well, otherwise perseverance is hard to come by. From a neurological standpoint, we need to maintain healthy alpha patterns through regular feelings of accomplishment or success. When a map, or whole project, starts to feel bogged down and full of gloom and doom for us, why continue, why persevere? I'm reminded of a quote from a Chinese painter of the later 17th-Century...Tung T'chi-Chang quoting someone else actually... "If at some time you come to see your painting as having no touch of the original, nothing fresh or contemporary, it is better to put down your brush and exercise your energies elsewhere for a time. If you instead keep painting you should simply abandon the work, as there is no hope for it." I'm not suggesting we always scrap our work the minute it starts to feel unfulfilling or unsatisfying, just that maybe perseverance can involve stepping away from a project for awhile until something provides the needed inspiration to help us overcome whatever hurdle we'd come up against. Okay, there's my page and a half. Gotta go to work.
