In Response To: Scrap it and rebuild from scratch (Forrest of B.org)

: The textures in Eternal X, while they didn't require a whole lot of
: retexturing, are different enough that I'm calling them v5, and even since
: the first major updates that required some minor retexturing, I've gone
: over them over and over again because after a few months of not looking at
: them much or closely, I'll go to play just for entertainment's sake and go
: "bleh... God how did I ever think that looked good?". Funny,
: just the other day Adam here looked at the new textures in the prologue
: from our first alpha build (which is up on the dev page if anybody wants
: to check it out), and was like "wow I love the new Jjaro
: textures". I said "wait... have I even uploaded the new ones
: yet? I'm still tweaking them." He was talking about what, to me, were
: now the OLD, ugly Jjaro textures, but are new compared to the ones in Mk
: V.

In my defense, I'd been away from Eternal for quite a while and missed a lot of updates – with each update the textures get better and better. It might be cool at some point to put something online comparing the textures that came with Mk I to the textures that are coming with Eternal X. I remember building I Can't Believe It's Not Total Carnage with the Mk I textures, and I felt incredibly restrained in what I could do. Everything looked pretty much the same, and I really had to use detailed geometry and such to make things look interesting. Then I remember a while back working on a new version of that map using the Eternal X textures and suddenly I found that the textures were great to work with. I still have some qualms with the color system, Forrest, but I think we talked about this plenty two years ago, and it's entrenched now in the project. Speaking of textures, next chance I get I'd like to talk to you about the Set 1 textures. I haven't done too much work with them yet, as mostly I'm just laying out the lines for the map I'm working on, but I already have some suggestions.
