Not that I'm a good mapper, but here's what I got.
A map is just like any other piece of art, so it should be something you like alot (unless you're completly building it for another person) but the tastes of others have to come into play if you want people to like it. For mapping, I think it is most important for you to please yourself first, and only change something if more then about half of the people playing the map complain about it.
