: While reading the PiD introduction I came across this: "The object
: itself was buried thousands of feet below ground, its nearly two kilometer
: length remarkably intact. It remained there, motionless, for thousands of
: years before it finally began to stir- and to dream. It was a member of a
: race whose history began when the Milky Way was still a formless
: collection of dust and gas- a powerful race of immortals which had quickly
: grown bored of their tiny universe and nearly exterminated themselves in
: war."
: This is saying that the W'rkncacnter(assuming that's what the Dreaming God
: is) were fighting a civil war. However, did we hear of a war amongst the
: W'rkncacnter at any point in Marathon? No. Or did we? We know that the
: Jjaro had been fighting the W'rkncacnter for a long time, right? Here's my
: thinking: Is it possible that the Jjaro and the W'rkncacnter were one in
: the same?
I've long imagined the Jjaro and W'rk to be the same "race" - not really a biological species but the same general type of entity - and so in that sense yes, that would count as a civil war between them.
However, that does not preclude the W'rk group of them from warring within itself as well, which is how I have interpreted it.
Also, we do hear of battles between ancient beings at the dawn of time in Marathon:
"In primordial space, timeless creatures made waves. The waves were battles, and the battles were waves..."
