When I worked on Yota, I edit a lot of colortables for aliens. In my experince is alephone, and infinity for that matter, unwilling to to display certain colors, even if they're set in the 256 color range. Light purple for example, a light tone of a bluish purple.
I'd would advice you to try to change the normal colortable so it includes all the colors your aliens have ( as close as you can get anyway). It's very important to have the colors lined up in ranges if you want to edit the colortables later. (and that's good if some of the colors refuses to show up in the engine). IF you don't know how color ranges are created it's by a simple alt click on the first and last color. It creates a blend between the two.
