Thanks for the answers. From my understanding of your answers, (and after thinking about it a bit myself) they just released the source of the engine so people would make mods. This would create more interest in the game, thus selling more copies of Marathon. I guess I get it. I still don't like it, though. It seems like some sneaky business practices.

I'm not saying I don't have ten bucks. I was just wondering what the heck bungie was thinking when they released the source of the engine only. Besides, I just discovered all of this quite recently, and wasn't too aware of the Mac Action Sack.
