In Response To: When did you first play a Marathon game? (Krazy) : When did you first play a Marathon game and how old were you? Late in 1994, when I was 18 (creaky old man here!), I managed to download the Marathon 1 demo from a computer bulletin board over the Christmas holidays. The computer I had downloaded it onto was a Color Classic, though, so I had to wait to go home and install it on my family's upgraded LC II. Even with the upgrade card, I had basically every option that could be turned off off, but it was still a grand experience. I remember getting better and better at "Mars Needs Women" until I could finally play until I got tired of it, not until I was blown to pieces. A few months later, my family got the complete game. I was already intrigued by the story in the demo, but I was impressed by how much more complicated it was in the full game. After that, when I went off to university, I managed to wheedle my family into helping me get a Performa 5200, which let me play at 100% size, and I just went on from there. |
