In Response To: Welcome To The Revolution! (Scifiteki) Wow! When I saw the author of this post, I was ready to start checking out flights to Australia from Japan, where' I'll be spending a month late this winter. Ordinarily I don't believe in torture, but I was willing to make an exception for you . . . Well, it looks like you've been busy! Just to clarify for everyone else, I assume that what youv'e done so far is to assemble all levels from M2 and Moo, as well as Ingue Ferroque from M1A1 into a single sequence. Hopefully you've figured out how to switch texture sets by level using MML script. This still leaves a lot to be done. The premise is that the player has the opportunity to choose their own destiny rather than trusting it to fate or the Jjaro. Hence it is the player who will select the timelines to pursue, and there will be the opportunity to create new variations, playing levels with which we're all familiar but on the opposing side. I'm not sure you need to build new dream levels unless you want to, but rather I think you can use the existing dream sequences that follow the electric sheep levels to offer more choices. Not that I think anyone would object to new dream sequences if someone has an idea. Ben Potter of Marathon Fell fame once offered to help - you might want to e-mail him to see if he would be interested in making a contribution. The biggest task as I see it will be expanding the scenario with new variations of the existing levels, giving the player the chance to play them on the other side. I think we all have our favorites, but it might be helpful for people to list the scenarios here that they would particularly like to see reversed. Begging for Mercy/Hang Brain already constitutes one such pair, but I don't think that the new levels need to be altered to anywhere near that extent - mostly we would need to repopulate the levels, write new terminal text and change the mission objectives. And perhaps to make a few minor modifications to overall design, just to throw us off when we least expect it. A Converted Church is one I've seen mentioned numerous times - to this I would add from M2, Waterloo Waterpark (hey, it's already mentioned in Acme Station), What about Bob (prevent sabotage), Come and Take your Medicine (a personal fav), Ex Cathedra (prevent sabotage), Curiouser and Curiouser (just fun to play), Eat it Vid Boi (need I say more), Kill Your Television and Feel the Noise. Rocket Launcher is a possibility - just not sure where it would fit in if you're on Tycho's side. From Moo I would add Poor Yorick/Confound Delivery, Post Naval Trauma, possibly Where Some Rarely Go/Thing what kicks, definitely Naw Man He's Close and maybe One Thousand Slimy Things (not a fav, but a good one in terms of story). It might also be nice to include a couple of secret versions of All Roads Lead to Sol for balance with the Aye Mak Sicur variants. So what happens in October? My situation during the coming year is going to be different. I'm taking a sabbatical starting this Thursday. This will involve a lot of visit's to colleagues' laboratories and some time in residence in a few of them - a week at the U of Michigan in July, a months in Paris in Nov/Dec and a month in Japan in Feb/Mar. There may be others - I'm still working on this, and my frequent flyer miles will only go so far (actually, it's the cost of lodging that will bankrupt me). In any case, although my time will be much more flexible, I'll also be trying to get the most out of the year - it's not likely I'll have this opportunity again - and it will not always be convenient to maintain contact with the forum. There will be several stretches when I'll be making many short trips and will only have access via dial-up, and very limited time. We'll have to see how things go. |
