In Response To: Re: Can you switch sides within a level? (Ernie)

: For example, in a version of Converted Church populated by both Bobs and
: Pfhor, neither of whom considers you friend or foe, you might be albe to
: literally select the outcome depending on who you shoot. No need for dream
: sequences with this option - you can choose your destiny on the fly.

: That's an really interesting possibility Steve.

: I'm just curious, but can anyone think up the technical feats required to
: swing such an level? The only choice you're left with are Tag-related
: tricks (Timed platforms that change the course of a level) - that I can
: think of.

: So... how can the player shooting either BoB's or Pfhor (Side A or Side B)
: slow you down, or speed up your progress?

: Could this level selecting trick potentially be thrown out of wack by the
: player by them shooting *everyone? Not likley - just fix it to have two
: options: If ALL characters die - you're slowed down - you get the result
: of the slowed down plank (like when you let the reactor blow on harry
: Legs... or is that a different level? I forget...)

: If you help the winning side (chosen by the maps author) - basically the side
: with the most forces - you're sped up and recieve the "player beat
: the clock" level ending.

: If there are other considerations, please let me know. I'd like to exploit
: this in WMaiD. : )

This can be done with pfortran, but as I recall it, that scipt language is buggy and it won't restart if you begin the level from a patternbuffer. However, if things were different, you still have a hell to do the scripting. First, all aliens need to indexed (alien, polygon and value), then you'll need to do a loop based on the indexed aliens that will trigger all outcomes.
