Being an avid digital painter myself, I wouldn't consider repainting the focal point of the image a "slight edit" - That's some serious work! I know craig works fast, perhaps an hour or two at max for this, but that's a lot of pixelated paint pored onto an old image =)
It seems to me that he's even gone in at a higher resolution than the original, considering that advance in computing power. Look at the brush strokes on the old Sph't tail thing, compared to the updated marine.
