Just an update on this image. I ran search on my Marathon archive here and came across this very same image in all its detail but without the additional logo stuff. The image came from RuGGeR's Tavern Hotline site and has the date May 25, 1998. The image is entitled macaction.jpeg and is a Photoshop file weighing in at 596K, which is bigger than the one Bungie have. Also found a number of earlier variations of the same image by Craig and some other unfinished Marathon work. If I remember correctly RuGGeR got all these directly from Craig.
So this isn't a new retouched image by Craig but rather the little known final version.
