Dear Kago,

Remember, software doesn't kill computers - only programmers can kill computers.

Seriously, it sounds like your older version of AO is a fairly old version, as resolution switching and testing have been a part of AO for the last few versions now - and we all know how far apart stable releases are. In any case, it sounds like AO had problems with your preferences file and defaulted to monitor settings that were not compatible with your monitor. This shouldn't happen, as the default is as I recall to 256 colors and VGA resolution, but who knows what AO might have done based on its interpretation of your existing prefs file. Another important point is that the preference files are not backwards compatible, so you can't revert to the old version of AO and use your existing prefs file. The long and short of it is you should delete your existing AO preferences file. If you're using OS X, it's in Preferences folder in the Library folder of your home directory. If you're using OS 9 or earlier, it's in the Preferences folder in the System Folder. The file is labled AO Preferences, I think. Just throw it in the trash and reenter all your preferences within the game and you should be fine.

One caution - I'm not sure if the latest carbon release of AO is fully compatible with the Classic OS. If you're not using OS X, you may want to stick with OS 9 version (or Windows version if you're not on a Mac, obviously).
