: Redoing, or continuing the story? I personally would like to see a redo first
: - perhaps combining all three scenarios into one. The Halo engine should
: be able to handle this and there could be some interesting side stories
: and true nonlinearity that weren't possible with original Marathon
: engines. And then continuing the saga would be outstanding. It would be
: great to see Bungie go back to what was their crowning achievement - the
: best integration of story and FPS ever. But then your average gamer could
: care less about the story - if they do, they play the Myst-like games.
: Which is why the Marathon community is so strong after all these years -
: we have nowhere else to turn after. XBOX games appeal to the masses which,
: unfortunately, doesn't seem to include us.
I would be happy to have a redo as a starter. I think of a redo of M1, where M2 and Moo could be some sort of expansion pack, following a little later, as it already happened once. Save system, pattern buffers, shield terminals and everything else should be done in the old M1 fashioned way and I trust the guys from Bungie could easily do it.
As far as storytelling is concerned, what would impede a new Halo engine-based Marathon to tell the story exactly as it did, via AIs video interface? I can't see why we should have holographic AIs istead of "our" videoterminal ones.
After the redo, sure it would be great to have a follow-on into the Marathon universe, with the UESC, "our" characters, the Pfhor, Durandal.
And of course, the mk IV.
