: Wrong. Take a look at the Russian APS assault rifle.
Interesting. Thanx
: The idea of a flechette is to have a long, thin projectile that penetrates
: easily, then breaks apart into a set of fragments which tumble through the
: target, shredding everything in their path. Putting an explosive on the
: tip would destroy the flechette before it could penetrate properly.
OK. Misunderstanding here. With the explosive load I meant the powder. What you describe as a flechette (breaks apart into fragments after penetrating) is valid for M16 bullets or similar modern assault rifle ammo as well. So, what's the difference between a flechette and a bullet?
I think a flechette is a dart-like projectile, long, thin and pointed.
A SMG is by definition an automatic weapon firing pistol ammo ( 9mm para/.45 ACP). Can a gun firing flechettes be called a SMG?
