Theory: It has to do with how many reputable pages link to each result. For example, each individual post in this thread already has 15 links to it, not counting the front page. This interconnectedness is unique to WebBBS, so posting a phrase in a large WebBBS thread is a good way to get the number one spot on Google for that phrase.

(I originally said "...is a good way to get it high on Google", but that sounded suggestive.)
