Keep in mind that Durandal was responsible for opening and closing doors on the Marathon. Tycho was the science AI. Durandal may have made it to rampancy first, but Tycho was probably the smarter one initially. After Marathon 1, Tycho also had a much larger set of networks on which to grow. Durandal's combination of a planet-sized ego and battle-cruiser sized brain ended up being his Achilles heel.
