Here's a trick Goran taught me. When working in Forge with big views, make some of the lines in the area temporarily non-transparent. This allows you to work comfortably in Visual Mode (although it makes it difficult sometimes to judge the appearance of an area quickly), and then when you want to run it in Aleph One, make all those lines transparent again. It's extremely effective.
There's a map I made in Eternal X (the new version with very many redone levels) that is a huge open space, and it's a mountain. So it's all one incredibly long view (Marathon doesn't take into account that fact that rises in elevation obscure your vision when thinking about line-of-sight), and at almost every moment the player is on that level he is looking across hundreds of lines. Aleph One can handle it (sometimes barely – sometimes the frame rate plunges), but I wouldn't be surprised if my computer exploded if I tried to view it in Forge. It would've been impossible to make without Goran's trick.
