: Aleph one was built with the M2 source so it's built for marathon 2 and
: marathon infinity so everybody knows this. :)
: but still. this tutorial will be very good for all the n00bs that are coming
: into the marathon community thanks to halo and aleph one multiplayer. so
: this wasn't complete waste of time for you. Nice tutorial :)
Except that his tutorial is how to turn an installation of M1A1 into an installation of M2 or Infinity with Aleph One, which adds way lots of unnecessary complexity to the process. Much simpler would be just to stick Aleph One in your M2 or Infinity folder.
To the original poster: "Aleph One" is not the port of M1 you played. That's called M1A1, which stands for "Marathon 1 for Aleph One". What Aleph One itself is, is *just* an engine, based on the Marathon 2 source code, made compatible with Infinity, and a lot of improvements added. See the home page for it at Marathon Open Source. It is designed to be a drop-in replacement for your "Marathon 2" or "Marathon Infinity" application files in your original installations of those games. M1A1 required extra work to port it to Aleph One because M1 has vastly different file formats from M2 or Infinity and so wouldn't work out of the box like the latter would.
