In Response To: Re: Marathon 2 and Infinity with AlephOne (Johannes Gunnar) : but still. this tutorial will be very good for all the n00bs that are coming
It's a tutorial on how to something pointless. Making the app from your existing copy of M1A1 for OS X work with your existing copies of Mac M2 and Moo? It makes much more sense to download the latest version of Aleph One for whatever platform you use; and to get the game data from trilogyrelease instead of digging through your attic or eBay for the original CDs. I think the instructions currently found here are pretty much sufficient for newbies to get the game; provided they understand the basic concepts of folders, downloading, and unzipping. (On a side note, one beef I do have with trilogyrelease is that the Mac versions aren't clearly labeled as such; a Windows user might download them and wonder why they don't work, rather than scrolling down to A1/SDL Files for Windows. Also, the fine print still says "Windows-compatible versions coming soon".) There are minor inaccuracies as well. The original M1 did in fact have a Music file. M1's opening "swoosh" was stored in Sounds, not "hard coded MIDI". And since when does any version of AO refuse to play the original M2/Moo music files? Can anyone confirm this? Sorry, man. But the next time you enter a forum for rabid fans of a game, consider that some of them might already know how to install it. |
