Ok, that's REALLY weird. Monsters should definitely not be able to move through negative space. Is the space truly negative, or did you just click on the line between polygons and click "solid" (thus, the thickness of the wall is 0). If that's what you did, then the monsters can go through, otherwise it just can't happen. If you used the solid line manuever, I'd recommend going back and changing it to a wall of finite thickness and therefore some negative space.
