Being a cheapskate, I tend to hang on to old games rather than seek out new ones. I have Doom and Quake (which can be very visceral experiences, but of course don't have quite the same appeal to me as Marathon). I still play Civilization II, and have registered all three iterations of Escape Velocity. I also play adventure games of all kinds, from the old Infocom text adventures to realMyst to new text adventures available on the Internet to old LucasArts graphic adventures I've just figured out how to use a game engine emulator to play.
With all these games listed, though, I can get stuck in comfortable ruts, constantly playing the same levels from the Rubicon net level pack for brief and simple diversion.
