In Response To: Evil Volunteers - Introduction (Steve Levinson)

: Rather than delving into the scenario, I though that it might be a good idea
: to post some general comments about Marathon Evil to place it in context
: for those who may not have been around for its release. Although Evil may
: not have been the first Marathon total conversion, it was almost certainly
: the first TC for Infinity.

Evil was certainly the first major scenario for Infinity, but I don't think it can be called a total conversion. EMR is a total conversion, Trojan is a total conversion, RED is very close to a total conversion (it would be disqualified for using the Fighters and original wall textures), but Evil "only" has a few more monsters and sounds, and some new textures here and there. This doesn't affect the scenario's quality, of course, but "TC" is an inaccurate term.

: but Evil has a professional polish that
: was not seen again in another scenario until Rubicon's release years
: later.

For most of the scenario, I'd agree. For me, most of Evil's low points occur early on, but those levels are relatively short and we'll quickly move to more interesting territory.
