Since there have been 2 outbreaks and halo was built after the 1st. What if, the forerunners, built the halos after containing the first outbreak as massive reasearch labs/last resort mechanism after seeing the carnage of the first? and what if it was just luck that the halo MC and cortana visted contained flood? it is not written or said anywhere that all should or would contain it. What i'm getting to is that the halos was actually built as a massive quaratine device as some of you have already determind. But then we get to the strange part of why the entire galaxy and why can't it harm the flood. But maybe its because the flood aren't normal carbon based animals and cannot be affect by the neutron pulse (i think that's how the halo works... and that's the only thing i can think of that kills biological beings without explosives). So here's the scenero: Forerunner encounter's flood...... massive battle ensures and forerunners extremely weakened, in terms of species, not technology. The build the halos as a device to stop the the flood, knowing that they can't eliminate them. End of 1st outbreak. Forerunner's (or what remains of them) store and study flood on specific halos, or a single halo. 2nd accidental outbreak, almost killing off the forerunners, hence the activation of the halos. remaining forerunners bugger off to insure their survival as a race (or they may have just died out). | |
