: http://forums.bungie.org/halo/archive8.pl?read=208669 Just read through this and the resulting thread. I do find you point about the 'rangers' a interesting one. If the 'Flood' does comprise of just spores, and is viral or bacterial in essence, just what is the sources of the Rangers. Are they the original native creatures that the 'Flood' first infected, and ones that were possibly also retained for study on Halo. Maybe they naturally evolved, living in symbiotic harmony with the harmless 'dormant' spores they carried. Maybe some early explorers landed on their planet and were attacked by the Rangers (Alien) and, in doing so, the spores were transferred to a new host which had no natural ability to hold them in check.... However, that doesn't answer the question of the source of the Rangers on Halo. Is it a case of the Flood duplicating their natural host creatures from available host organic tissue? Is that what the 'bodies' Cortana mentions are for and why the larger infected host collect them. Raw materials...? Alternatively, the Rangers may indeed be the Flood themselves in native form and the spores simply part of their 'reproductive' process... Either way, the result is the same though. -
