A year ago I saw first-hand the cruelty people can do and lost some old high school friends. Afterwards, I was both thankful and hesitant about my fondness for games like Halo and Myth. I liked it for the escape, but it touched a raw nerve having to 'kill' so many people. After a few days of constant media replay of the tragedy, I lost my hesitation and was appreciative of an easy method of 'escape' from the harsh realities of this world. Don't get me wrong, I don't live with my head buried in the sand, but I do embrace the need for release. When Halo finally hit the shelves, it was such a pleasure for me and my son to get completely embroiled in the game. I'm both thankful for the quality of games out there made by companies as excellent as Bungie and for the communities, like here at HBO, that thrive around said games. It's a testament to the 'good side' of the human spirit that we can all come here like a 'neighborhood bar' and chat about the stuff we all have a common interest in, even if only a handful of us have ever met face-to-face. I'm thankful for those of you here at the forum that have made me laugh, and made me ponder things, and even the ones who momentarily got me upset, because at least you *exist* to make me upset, and the same can't be said of about 3000 or so people who perished a year ago. I even thank you lurkers, who have never posted, or maybe just did once or twice. When I note how many 'eyes' have seen certain threads, I know it's not a waste to contribute to this forum, even if a thread doesn't 'take off' as one might expect. This post is not an invitation for a lengthy political, religious, or whatever type of thread (so please respect my wishes and don't let it turn into one), I just want to *virtually* shake all of your hands and say "Thanks." Here's to more games, friendship (both "real" and online), and killing evil aliens that for some reason think my planet is better off dead. Never, you dickless SOBs.
