For the record, I don't think I've slung any mud. The worst I accused kornman of was selfishness, but I'll amend that to say he had good intentions. With special skills come special responsibilities, though, and I suggested several alternatives (as did Wu) that would've allowed those without his special skills (i.e., most of us) to have the opportunity to participate. I'm not saying he deserved to be attacked, and that puts me off, too, frankly, but I care about this community and think it would've been better for this community had we not had our collaboration nipped in the bud so quickly. No one knows how it would have turned out. Someone could have and probably would have figured it out fairly quickly, but I think it would probably would have gone more like this: Someone finds the switch, so then we all try to figure out what happens after you flip the switch. Someone with a damaged falcon flies through the circle, gets the pelican, then we all try that, and it doesn't always work, and then someone figures out it has to be damaged. At some point someone tries flying a banshee and gets the phantom. See how different people could have discovered different layers of this? I don't doubt that this is what the developer intended and what Bungie intended carries weight for me. I also don't buy the notion of "saved time." It's a fun game, and time invested is not time wasted, and in the process of looking for this, who knows what else we may have uncovered. I started looking after I read the BWU and had a great time messing around trying to figure it out. While it lasted, the egg mystery, like the challenges and (sometimes) rank, served as an impetus for me to do things in the game I might not do otherwise, and even though I wasn't successful on my own (and didn't expect to be), I should be allowed to express my disappointment that it was cut short by kornman's introduction of deux ex machina, impressive though his work may have been from a certain perspective. If I've been unfair to kornman, then I'm sorry for that. My hope is that this has been a productive conversation, and we've all learned from it.
