I'm a little bemused to be honest.
Not just at the lack of suspension of disbelieve, but also because I must have missed when any of the fans became supremely qualified experts in Brute anatomy and physiology.
(Though I don't see any brain matter going around. I see blood from having an eye punched out, but nothing to suggest that Brute should be permanently incapacitated.)
Actually, I'm pretty happy with the whole thing so far.
I don't even have any complaints about O'Brien or his character. It doesn't even seem that hard to grasp. He's a cocky kid (they sure as hell exist in the military) who's used to being the best of the best as a marksman, and a little spoilt in that, yet he's suddenly kicked out of his role and 'replaced' by a power armoured 'freak'.
He's pissed off and being a kid, he gets bitchy and even sloppy. Probably some parallels to be drawn to 'Halo kids' there.
But in the end, when the pressure was on, he rose to his challenge, took the shot and succeeded.
Its because he's an ODST, an elite soldier, that he's so put out in the first place.
Yeah, he's very unprofessional in his hissy fit, but again he's a kid. Despite his lines at the start, he's the baby in the story and the Spartan is his babysitter. It all seems so blindingly obvious.
And by the end, I'm sure he's grown up and matured considerably, hence our final ending shots.
He's a character, and I see that as a plus in the Halo universe which is somewhat lacking in them overall.
I'm also well up for different artistic interpretations of the Halo universe, so overall I'm giving the project the thumbs up.
