And I personally have encountered far more praise then criticism, so there you go. :) I wasn't even aware of any real debate over it, though I'm by no means a hard-core Star Wars fan. I like the Republic Commando novels, I adore most of the X-Wing series of novels and I quite like the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy. That's about it. I'm not a Jedi person at all. I've read some of the others but I've never re-read them. Mind you the critique doesn't seem to so much be the actual writing as it is over attitude and a fuss about the size of the Grand Army of the Republic. That 3 million clone troopers is a ridiculously small number (even though that is kind of the point in the stories. That its no where near enough to end the war, because the war was never meant to end in a traditional sense. It was to be a stalemate until the moment Palpatine decided it was time to end it). Bad vibes seem to have then formed because unlike most authors, she actually gets involved in the community debates and isn't afraid to tell fans where to go. Not always endearing to people. Such as this one: http://www.karentraviss.com/html/jedi.htm Using the phrase "Talifan" to describe some fans isn't going to win too many brownie points either... Ah well, its not always about the actual person I suppose. The only thing to do is to actually read some of it and form ones own opinion. And since she's penned plenty of freely available short stories and excerpts, many completely unrelated to Star Wars but still quite highly rated sci-fi, its not so hard to do.
