Personally, I'm looking for the sequels to "Perfect Dark" and "Conker's Bad Fur Day" from Rareware. As you probably already know, Rareware develops for Nintendo exclusively. However, these titles don't seem to be present for the Gamecube's launch. Nintendo's Gamecube is the cheapest of the "big 3" to produce and hopefully will be the first to see a price reduction. Microsoft and Sony will loose money on every unit sold, but not Nintendo. So why not wait on the Gamecube? Since you are a hard-core gamer, wait for Nintedo to put out some hard-core games. Also, the Xbox uses a derivative of Direct-X for its development, which is very easy to program for. Witness the speed in which Bungie remade Halo. (They built a new engine to take advantage of the Xbox's features.) Since win95+ games use Direct-X, there should be ports to the Xbox that developers aren't going to bother with on those other consoles. New game developers might choose the Xbox over the others because making a PS2 game is more expensive and Nintedo is not known for courting 3rd party developers. I think getting a PC just to play games is expensive. What kind of PC do you have now? Will it run Halo? Get the Xbox now and give Nintedo some time to develope some mature titles. Save disk space on your PC! |
