Read Christopher Rowley's Starhammer and Vang books, as well as probably the most important influence on the storyline, Larry Niven's Ringworld. After you do that, get back to me. I'm a fan of Starcraft myself and the similarities between both games have been examined to the point where anything more and you'd be beating a very dead horse, but the way it sounds you make it look like Bungie has no creative talent what-so-ever when they designed the storyline. Read those four books, and you'll gain a much higher appreciation for Halo and retract what you wrote.
