In Response To: Re: Bungie needs to cater to both sides. (Scarab)

: That's too glib.

You've got me there. I have a tendency of writing more than is neeeded.

: 1) Hyperbole

: I wasn't dissapointed in Halo2 because of the hyperbole.

I don't think anyone was. That's not what I was saying. I was simply stating that the amount of hype surrounding it magnified any bad feeling that would come later. "The bigger they come the harder they fall", as they say.

: 2) It changed.

: If it had changed for the better then there would be no complaints. The
: people who complain believe that the changes were for the worse.

It all depends on how you define better and worse. In this case, "better" seems to be leaning toward Halo: CE and "worse" originality.

: Of course that is only their opinion but there are significant numbers of
: people who share that opinion.

I don't know about that. It seems to me that the people of that persuasion are in the minority by far, but are more apt to express their views. This can make a side seem larger when it isn't. Of course I haven't taken a poll lately so there's no way of knowing for sure.

: And I don't believe that these people were just waiting for Nov 9th so they
: could moan about halo2, they wanted to like it.

Sure they wanted to like it. Who didn't? I don't understand what you mean.

: A lot of people bought the limited edition Halo2 because they loved the game
: and were looking forward to years of Halo based fun. Then they played the
: game and thought 'this sux'.

: They didn't say this because they had 'change-o-phobia', they said it because
: they genuinely belived that it sucked.

Ah, but did they believe it sucked because they did not want change? That is the question. I'm sure some really disliked it for what it was, but those people raised their concerns and then left it forever. Which is the sensible thing to do when you don't like something.

: It was possible for Bungie to have made a game that would have satisfied the
: Halo fans who think that halo2 sucks. Unfortunately they didn't make that
: game.

They could have. Then they would have a bunch of people happy as clams, and lost a much, much larger bunch. By which I mean nearly every casual gamer out there.

: Maybe halo3 will satisfy most people if there is some common ground between
: the two camps. I believe that there is and that Bungie can pull it off but
: time will tell.

Then you are more optimistic than I. I see no way that these two groups can love the same game, when one wants Halo: CE v3.0 and the other Halo 3. Maybe if Bungie gets everything absolutely perfect at release, a small denomination will switch sides. But no matter which way they go, someone's gonna feel like they've gotten the short end of the stick.
