In Response To: Re: The importance of organic reclaimers (Urk)

: I think genetics plays an important role here.

: Library - An unordered collection of clones (ie, cloned DNA from a particular
: organism), whose relationship to each other can be established by physical
: mapping.

: It would make perfect sense that the security is based on a genetic scale, as
: Reclaimers are, as far as we know, required to be human. In the case of
: the flood, the genetic material becomes damaged, evidenced by their
: distorted appearance.

The only problem is that the Sarge should not be detected as a Reclaimer because he has been infected. Then again, I remember reading that maybe those details should be ignored in the light of the bigger picture.

Anyway, I like your thinking, good stuff.

: I think this theory lends support to the theory that Humans are genetically
: related to the Forerunners, perhaps even remnants of the race itself left
: behind as a safeguard against the Flood. Taken in the context of the
: Biblical Ark and it seems even more possible that this could be the case.

: "I am a monument to all your sins."

I like that reasoning.

In my long ago Halo Fan Fiction universe, after an initial outbreak, the Flood and Forerunners created a sort of symbiotic relationship. The Flood genetic capabilities were integrated with the Forerunners giving them longer life and regenative capabilities. The Forerunner thought they were safe but later found that even with the safeguards they had taken, they were slowly being changed to be like the Flood. Like a disease inside of them.

Anyway, long story short, there were very few "pure bred" Forerunner left (those untouched by the Flood alterations).

Surely it was a horrible situation when anyone could be your enemy, past friends and family, even yourself could become victim to this internal enemy. The sins of technology and playing God.
