I think of a very old b/w game I had on my mac+, it was called...um...Well, anyway, there were 3 or four tic-tac-toe boards, on top of each other, and if you placed say Xs in a row, but one X on each board, you won... This doesn't have anything to do with the glyphs, but maybe Chelsea used a similar thing... Maybe It's like this.

P Q R

V W X
Y Z _
And to know which board you mean you use a number, I would mean board 1 and therefore G1 equals F!
