My Halo disc is becoming scratched to the point that I am concerned about it being read reliably. I have many other xbox discs that are becoming worn as well. I have one game that from day one had read issues. I have transferred these to my hard drive to preserve them. Along with the ability to play xbox games, I have installed a media player that plays several video formats (no QuickTime -- shitty), audio formats, and still image formats. I am able to transfer files via FTP to my xbox and have collected some Halo trick movies, etc that reside on my xbox. I also transfer my .mp3s to the system which is alot quicker and easier than using Microsoft's .wma crap and having to insert your CD and then enter the track names manually using their shitty interface. I also have a DVD player application that allows me to play DVDs on my xbox without having to buy Microsoft's DVD kit. Some people are also developing freeware games for the xbox already using a xbox version of (I think) C++. I have a couple of those which are quite basic, but it's intersting to see what people have already developed for the xbox. Anyway, these are just a few examples of legitimate uses for a modified xbox.
