Presumably it points towards the strongest gravitational or magnetic field. Otherwise, even Ar's on Earth would point at Threshold and that would be a pretty useless navigational tool. Personally, I never used the thing, never got THAT lost. I think a little smiley face every time you bag a covie would've been cool. Or a count of total rounds fired. Related question: What information is the display on the SR scope representing?
