I was trying to visualize the map. When you go out into the water and reach the first barrier, you are under the water, and above the floor, obviously. When you go out to the edge or the water, or the outer boundary/void, they have corners, but the corners don't line up above and below. The corner of the water space is not over the corner of the outer boundary/void. They seem like two overlapping square/rectangle areas at 45 degrees form each other. Maybe something like this:
