In Response To: Japanese speakers? (Louis Wu)

: Matthew Brady just found this link:

: Is this a review? (If so, what does it say?)

Yes, a big ass review by somebody named Takahiro Mitsu/Misu/Sansu?

His overall review is great -- probably something like a 9.5 (but he doesn't provide any number).

Here are some of the highlights of the review:
Starts out by remarking Halo is extremely popular in the U.S., but in Japan there is some negative information about it. FPS games are not that popular in Japan, and before playing Halo, the reviewer thought he wouldn't be interested in the game because in Japan, 3D shooting games (=FPS in his vocabulary) are for the maniac game playing crowd, not the mainstream player. But he enjoyed the game immensely and played it for 16 hours continuously, skipping meals and sleep.

He was very impressed by the control system. He opines that the PC control system is not that good for FPSs and enjoyed the triggers very much -- he felt it was more realistic. The Halo control system along with the Xbox controller gave him the feeling of being immersed in a "real life performance."

He felt the story and "stage direction" was superior to other games. It's very smooth. Also, he enjoyed the sound.

Then he goes on a bit about the story, providing some minimal background to the story and what type of aliens you face, remarking that if you like Alien 2 or Starship Troopers, you'll like Halo. It has similar concepts of sending people from a main ship to explore and fight on a planet, and fighting the aliens as a group.
Another thing that impressed him was the chaos and realism of fighting. You can even accidentally shoot your own people, and it's easy to get disoriented, which he seemed to enjoy. It was sometimes frightening.

The only negative -- multiplayer screens are too small with the whole screen divided up. He also thought the advertisement that you could play up to 16 other players was misleading since nobody is going to drag their Xbox consoles to one meeting place to hook them all up. He didn't think that was realistic . "Who wants to do that?" was his attitude.

These are only some of the highlights of the interview. He has a lot more to say.

Oh yeah, the game is selling for 6,800 yen. I'm not sure what the exchange rate is right now, but if its 130, that's going ot put it at about 50-55 bucks a game.
