Go and watch a show called Andromeda...

The basic idea is they know certain entry points go certain places. If they do a random entry point then that is a good way of getting away from earth, the chance of ending up at earth with a random jump is like the chance of throwing a rock and it hitting a precise sqaure nanometre lol.
