Hee hee! PerfectCore, I am in awe of the force of your passion.
Fanfic is always a problem, simply because: the people who write fanfic... are the kind of people who write fanfic. That's not to say that fanfic is inevitably awful, or that professional writers can't blow with the best of 'em; I fondly remember "Suddenly, an explosion hit!" as the clumsiest piece of an appalling movie novelization I read when I had too much time on my hands. Indeed, the excerpts I've read from the 'Fall of Reach' Halo book haven't exactly impressed me, but generally I approach fanfic with a sinking feeling in my stomach, much the same way as when I see posts by '1337 h4XX0r5' or grammar-murderers who write one long paragraph with no punctuation or capitals, and interchangeably mix "their", "they're" and "there", amongst other old favourites (and 9 times out of 10 call ordnance "ordinance").
Fanfic is like political power: in general the kind of people keenest to get involved are exactly the people you want kept as far away from it as possible. Mostly, by the time you've acquired the emotional depth and range of experience to write compelling fanfic... you just don't want to anymore....
