In Response To: Re: hey... waitamin....! *SP* (Lucid) : Yellow blips show up on your motion tracker all over on this level. I think
You nailed it. They did the same thing in Myth... using 'hidden' friendly units to let you see other parts of a map that were not close enough otherwise. : I'm guessing Bungie either: A) wants you to be scared by all the scary stuff
The idea here is that you are following bands of marines as they investigate this area ahead of you. Keyes comes here looking for the 'weapons' that the Covenant think are the treasure of Halo. They are scavengers, after all. Keyes wants to find it before they do, to tip the scales or at least balance them out when we next battle the Covies. Cortana, after processing what Halo's all about yells at you to run and stop Keyes before it's too late. (question, if she now knows so much... why didn't she know about the monitor? Or maybe she DID know about the monitor... and she needed the... hmm... wow, conspiracy rears its ugly head again. heh ) The one kink in this theory is that when Foe Hammer is setting you down on the swamp, she says something about it being 12 hours since Keyes was last spotted here. Or something. As for the 'weapon' Keyes is looking for, whether it's a translation glitch or what not, the truth is that the Covenant stumbled upon the flood, and in their zeal let them loose upon the complex. Certainly the Flood could be described in the same cryptic way as a weapon of mass destruction. Note that as you run toward the lip of the entrance, you can see machine gun fire and grenade explosions (this is especially evident if you follow the tricks outlined in this thread and approach the entrance from ABOVE; as soon as you slide back down, you'll see machine gun fire with no machine guns or soldiers visible :), and as you approach the first elevator, it's just returning to your level. Someone was *just* there, ahead of you a few steps. The story justification at this point is that in your time to explore the area, you'll have missed the opportunity to catch up with the others. Of course, after you've played it through a few times, this makes no more sense, as you can get to the flood room in record time. But there's only so much that technology can do for us when playing games. :) : By the way, when you cross the tree trunk to the first turret there is a
It's usually a grunt. As an aside, I *just* discovered a few days ago that after finding the flood, there's a path to an elevator shaft where the elevator is broken. I assume that this elevator is where you would have gone first after leaving the flood room, trying to escape, but up until now I never found it. It's a great dramatic touch, as you press the elevator button and see broken, flaming pieces of elevator fall from up above down below into the shaft. The music bit is a great touch there as well. Kudos again to Marty, the master sonic manipulator.
