Halo 4 is overbearingly loud. | |

In Response To: Re: Halo 5 needs an Audio slider. (}SoC{BrownSound) The above is a pretty clear comparison that on average, Halo 4 is twice as loud as Reach. All I did was load Audition, jump in Forge, fly around, fire off a few mags from the AR, expend my grenades, and then leave. I didn't edit the volume for either game afterwards, and I've marked what's what. My audio setup is as such. The 360 plugs into the TV (serving as secondary display on my computer). The Audio Out on the TV plugs into the Line In on the computer. This allows me to use the same sound system for both devices without playing with plugs. The Line In volume is adjusted to be roughly in line with the Windows System volume, and both are adjusted to be comfortable for use with headphones (when I'm not using headphones, just turn up the speaker volume). That solution has worked for years, and always been very comfortable. While the above shows Halo 4 is louder than Reach, I'd hazard it's frequently also louder than any other game I play as well. And since Halo 4 is also far more noisy than past Halos (seriously, the game is like a wall of constant audio, seemingly nothing is ever quiet or silent) the game literally makes my ears hurt if I play with headphones for any lengthy duration. Yeah. I could just go turn the volume down and that would solve the problem, but why is the game that loud in the first place? The audio mix just isn't that good. You see it with music. You see it with dialog. You see it with sound effects. You see it with ambient environmental audio. It's like the audio team just normalized all the audio. While audio adjustment sliders would be nice (personally I don't care if we ever get them or not), that's only patching the problem (and forcing the end user to fix your bad audio mix). Whatever happened to Halo 4's audio levels needs to not happen in Halo 5.
