Like how the stomach is : unprotected. : I still have a genuine bit of British Army kit in the form of an Enhanced : Combat Body Armour and that has 2 great big bloody 1 inch thick plates : over the spine and chest. I always assumed the underskin of the Spartan's suits was pretty bullet-resistant. The lack of rigid armor was the tradeoff for being far more free in their range of motion.
